Marked for later. - But I noticed the oxymoron in the title of the thread:
Evolutionary purpose -- WTF?
recently bret weinstein and richard dawkins sat down for a debate.in the following video, weinstein talks about what can be done to address an error in dawkins'selfish gene theory in terms of the new atheism's error and regarding religion as a mind virus.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rm8fksjljtm&t=1096s_____and a good follow up:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qr5yn2g4h54&t=904s.

is there any word on what the results are for the 2018 service year report?.
I wouldn't say they are "hidden", they just don't make it easy to find.
Don't make it easy to find -- That's the definition of "to hide".
has anyone experienced that family members of the general flock and those of the elders were treated differently, unfairly, or just put on a pedestal just coz they were elders kids?
where i grew up ,elders kids used to steal from their dads wallet right in fron t of us , and say to us that " if you say anything no one will believe you, i am the elders son".this went on from bad to worse , he grew up a constant liar, wore earrings to college and questionable association and clothes, involved in all things worldly.
.i know this coz he had a worldy friend who lived next door to me.this neighbors house was his go to for a double standard life style.
Growing up as a JW and the son of an elder I often felt like living in a bubble in a bubble. As a JW kid there weren't a lot of other kids in my age group anyway, but if I wanted to hang out with someone not being from the "higher ranks" as it were, that was frowned upon, especially by my mother. I remember her saying, "they are just ordinary brothers", and I should make friends with other elder kids. I felt ashamed of her.
in a conversation i had with a jw at the door some time ago he mentioned that their were heaps of apostate websites dishing out false information about jehovah`s witnesses .. i mentioned to him that if they were ex jw`s , so they knew about the religion ,maybe they are trying to tell you something.?.
it just went over his head and that they all had an axe to grind.. anyway i was just wondering if anybody has done a count as to how many do exist in the whole world ?.
even approximate guess-timations ?.
I entered into the Google search line: ex JW sites
and it answered: About 43.500.000 results (0,44 seconds)
That's pretty impressive.:-)
several years ago unless i was dreaming i read a watchtower quotation that effectively said that they would execute us as disfellowshipped individuals if the law would allow.. was i dreaming?.
1952 or whenever - In JW time reckoning it's been just before the last corner.
Anyway, this appalling attitude of dehumanising people, even members of the own family, by disowning them and practically declaring them dead, simply for not subscribing anymore to every whim of 8 old farts in Warwick, has never been softened; on the contrary, the cruelty only has ever been notched up wreaking havoc on hundreds of thousands of peoples' lives.
there is a one page article in the current wt study mag, sept 2018 pg 22 with the title “do you know the time?”.
in that article it describes a number of different ways you can say the time is 1:30. it goes on to say “there are even places where that same time could be expressed as “half two,” meaning 30 minutes before two”.
what i would like to know is this, where in the world does “half 2” mean 1:30?
In the German language we have not only "half-two" ( halb zwei ), in some regions it is normal to say "quarter-two" ( viertel zwei ), meaning 1:15. Likewise "three-quarter-two" ( dreiviertel zwei ), meaning 1:45.
"can you serve where the need for kingdom publishers is greater?".

the message of jehovah’s kingdom by christ has already gained grand triumphs throughout the earth because he backs up and blesses the preaching of this “good news” by his witnesses in all the inhabited earth.
"" [...] until Armageddon, when his own triumphant act of vindication will cause all the earth’s atmosphere to be permeated with the sweet, life-giving odor of the knowledge of God for every praiser of Jehovah that then breathes."
WTF? Oh, you mean the stench, the sickly odour of decay, the foul reek of eight billion rotting corpses, as if filth unnameable were littering the entire surface of the earth? — Nice euphemism.
i guess every jw has a different conscience on the matter, and i don't believe any jw publications have ever specifically mentioned nudity in film as being off limits.
of course genitals are out of the question because that's usually relegated to r movies which most good jws don't view.
female toplessness is condoned but not spoken about, as most jws i know have seen titanic and many own it.
Even Jesus wasn't born wearing magical underwear - he wasn't a Mormon after all.
Seriously, it's quite telling that violence is considered more acceptable than a nude human, or a couple having consensual sex.
today is my 34th birthday.
or, my 3rd birthday that i've actually acknowledged seeing as i was raised in the cult.. i woke up this morning to my 4yo running into my room and wishing me a "happy birthday daddy!".
i got a card from my ex-jw brother and i bought myself a birthday gift - a new 50mm lens for my nikon camera (photography is a hobby i took up since leaving the cult).. i dont know about you guys, but birthdays is still something i have to make a conscious effort to acknowledge and enjoy.
Happy Birthday to you, P.E!!
so, yesterday whilst playing chess i had a discussion ranging widely topically in which my chess opponent asked me, "how do you determine whether any religion is good or bad since there is so much basic disagreement on interpretations of text?
"i replied this way:"does this particular god need to be treated like an adult, or as a spoiled child with a churlish temper?
that's a good place to start.
TerryWalstrom -- That's a good point: Being a perfect human according to the bible doesn't imply the ability to discern the concepts of Good and Evil, after all.
